A more advanced approach

The past few decades, the advancements in technology boosted and assisted the creation of a new category in fire alarm systems : the addressable fire alarm system. These new and advanced systems, approach differently the traditional problems faced in fire alarms, using cutting-edge devices.

Basic components of an advanced fire alarm system

A fire alarm system is consisted of detectors (divided per zones) and the central control panel that handles them. In an addressable fire alarm system, each detector has its own unique address. In case of an alarm, we are able to identify which detector send the relevant signal and act accordingly. In larger facilities, we can locate the specific detector much sooner, since we know his specific address without wasting precious time searching for its exact whereabouts (ex. the detector might be hidden behind a heavy object etc).

Most of the current addressable systems include a monitor that provides us with extra information from our detectors. For instance, in case of an alarm in our storage facility the screen will display a relevant message “Storage A1 smoke”. This will speed up our initial act since we will not have to study our building’s blueprints to locate the specific space. In some of the systems we may also be notified remotely using SMS or email services, depending on the alarm.

Furthermore, we may also choose to not automatically activate the alarm, meaning that the signal from the detectors are mainly transfer to the central control panel without triggering any alarms. We may be able to track and monitor possible temperature changes, gas concentrations, smoke etc,  without constantly activating the alarm. By choosing this option we avoid false alarms that would cause panic and hardship to both our clients and personnel (especially in large facilities such as supermarkets,airports,mall etc).
